3 Ways Gong Therapy CAN Support YOUR Kundalini Awakening

In my recent blog, Kundalini Awakening 101, I explained what a Kundalini awakening is and what it isn’t. Hopefully I dispelled concerns and got you excited about tapping into this ethereal part of yourself. Kundalini is subtle feminine energy that is stored at the base of the spine in the root chakra, or energy center. It is also sometimes described as Holy Spirit, Divine Within, among others. It is raised through applied breathwork and intention that mixes  positively and negatively charged energy at the root chakra.. Through asanas with body locks, breathwork, meditation, and mantra (all components of a Kundalini Yoga class), it is possible to raise the energy up through the subtle central channel, the sushmana, which runs through all the chakras.

So is there a role for gong therapy in supporting the rising of your Kundalini energy experience? You won’t be surprised that my answer is “absolutely”! Here are the top 3 ways that regular gong sound therapy will support you in raising your Kundalini energy.

Kundalini Awakening Experience

  1. The gong helps to bring your mind to a meditative state. For most of us, raising our Kundalini energy is a process that requires a regular practice and a quiet mind. Research has demonstrated that gong’s ability to soften the mind’s control and bring it to a meditative, more relaxed state. Reducing the mind’s control also opens us up to dreamlike experiences that allow us to get a different perspective on a particular aspect of our lives or a situation. This is in stark comparison to how we experience life in our normal waking state, where we tend to function from our minds, which are influenced by beliefs and fears. It is interesting to note that in acupuncture fears are stagnant liver energy. When the energy in the liver flows freely, the mind is more meditative.

  2. The vibration of the gong stimulates the nerve endings in the skin, your dermatomes, which in turn travels through the nervous system and into your vital organs. Since the physical body is approximately 70% water, the vibratory ripples of the gong in the body facilitate the movement of energy in the body and support the shift in energetic blocks. It is like an internal massage that can facilitate the increased flow of energy in the body from your Kundalini awakening experience.

  3. Regular gong sessions have also shown to reduce blood pressure and elevate mood. A change in your norms, even when they are healthy changes, can be unsettling and downright scary. They can cause stress and according to the Mayo Clinic, “reacting to stress in unhealthy ways can increase your risk of high blood pressure, heart attacks and strokes.” Particularly given the times we live in, our bodies and minds are already under considerable stress, therefore minimizing the stress from positive changes is important to support you in making these lasting adjustments and not abandoning them in order to get short-term relief.
